Did Jerry Jones reveal anything about Mike McCarthy’s current status? It’s difficult to think otherwise.
The Dallas Cowboys defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 26-24 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Sunday night. The victory was the Cowboys’ fourth in their past five games, and the team’s record improved to 7-8. Compare that to when the Cowboys were 3-7 and had recently switched from Dak Prescott to Cooper Rush at quarterback.
Dallas has improved significantly and demonstrated that they have not given up on the season. Despite being eliminated from playoff contention prior to the game, the Cowboys defeated the Buccaneers. Following the game, owner Jerry Jones smiled.
Check out this exchange he had with McCarthy in the Cowboys’ locker room:
That looks like someone who wants McCarthy back.
McCarthy is in the fifth and final season of his deal with Dallas. Despite three consecutive 12-5 seasons, there were questions about his job status this season.
When the Cowboys were 3-7, it seemed unlikely that McCarthy would return. But Jones apparently wanted to see how the Cowboys finished the season. McCarthy’s record of 4-1 in his last five games is certainly impressive.
Jones even admitted as much to the media following the game.
“I can’t express how proud I am of them and the coaching team. “It really shows me something,” Jones stated following the game.
The Cowboys will end the season at Philadelphia in Week 17 and at home against Washington in Week 18. If Dallas can split those games, McCarthy might return.
