LEBRON James has spoken out against the current status of the NBA.
The NBA has begun to make modifications to the game, with the All-Star Game being the first to be affected.
The All-Star game has been one of the league’s most hated events, and the NBA is introducing a new format this season.
Instead of two All-Star teams playing one game, four teams will compete in a tournament.
“Something had to change,” James explained.
We’ll see when we get there.
“It is different. Naturally, whenever you make a change, there will be some repercussions.
“I do not know. I mean, I have some thoughts of what might work. You need to do something.
“Obviously, the last couple of years have not been a great All-Star Game that Sunday night.”
LeBron acknowledged the move, but also saw it as an opportunity to speak out against the NBA as a whole.
“It isn’t only the All-Star Game. “It is our game in general,” James stated.
“There are a lot of f**king threes being shot.
“So it’s a bigger conversation than just the All-Star Game.”
The NBA is experiencing a significant dip in ratings as a result of the present product on the court.
Commissioner Adam Silver recognizes that this addresses his feelings regarding the three pointers.
“The answer is yes, [we are having] many discussions about the style of basketball [being played],” Silver informed the audience.
“I wouldn’t reduce it to a so-called 3-point shooting problem. The NBA agreed to an 11-year arrangement with three networks beginning with the 2025-26 season.
For the first time since the network’s inception in 1988, TNT will not broadcast any games.
The Walt Disney Company will continue to air the league’s 80 regular-season games on ESPN and ABC.
They will also broadcast about 18 first and second round playoff games, a Conference Finals series for ten out of eleven years, and the NBA Finals.
NBC will return to broadcasting NBA games for the first time since 2002.
The network will broadcast up to 100 games every season across its channels and the Peacock streaming service.
It will also host NBA All-Star Game and roughly 28 postseason games from the first and second rounds.
For six of the next eleven years, NBC will broadcast one Conference Finals Series in rotation with new broadcaster Amazon Prime.
Amazon will air 66 regular-season NBA games, including one on Black Friday.
The streaming site also hosts the latter stages of the NBA Cup and the complete Play-In Tournament.
In addition, Prime will broadcast around one-third of the first and second round playoff games.
“I think we look more holistically at the skill level on the floor, the diversity of the offense, the fan reception to the game, all of the above.”
Over the previous decade, the number of three-point tries each game has increased dramatically.
During the 2015-16 season, the Golden State Warriors topped the NBA with 31.6 attempts per game.
This season, the Boston Celtics led the NBA in attempts per game (51.1).
There is no telling what the NBA could do to lower this number, but they will have to attempt something.
