OMAHA, Nebraska (WOWT) – Investigators are still investigating into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 6-year-old child from a gunshot wound last weekend.
Around 4 p.m. Sunday, Omaha police were called to a residence between 33rd Street and Redick Avenue in response to reports of a gunshot.
They came to discover 6-year-old Alonni Barfield with a gunshot wound. The child was taken to the hospital in serious condition and subsequently died.
How can a 6- or 8-year-old gain hold of a loaded, semi-automatic weapon and do the devastation that occurred here?” Kleine stated. “Where is the person who should be a responsible gun owner?” Where was the owner of the weapon? Or, who was overseeing these youngsters at the time and allowed anything like this to happen?
Law enforcement authorities informed First Alert 6 that there were additional children in the house at the time of the shooting, and that they are now wards of the state due to concerns about their safety.
