Omaha man accused in fatal pedestrian hit-and-run changes plea

OMAHA, Nebraska (WOWT) – A man charged with a hit-and-run pedestrian collision that killed a lady in June changed his plea on Wednesday.

Davon Barnes of Omaha pleaded “no contest” on Wednesday to leaving the scene of a severe injury collision, a Class 3 felony. He was legally accused with failing to stop and give help, which resulted in death.

Danayjha Britt was slain while going crossing the street at around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 29. According to investigators, Barnes was driving fast when he collided with Britt.

According to records, Barnes “admitted to knowingly hitting a person in the roadway” and ran out of fear. He sought legal assistance after learning that the pedestrian had perished.

Barnes admitted to a Class 3 felony, which carries a maximum penalty of four years in jail.

His sentence is scheduled on March 19.
