Omaha Man Sentenced to 10-16 Years After Shootout with Police

An Omaha man, Patrick Wright, has been sentenced to a combined 10 to 16 years in prison for charges stemming from a police chase and shootout in October 2023, as well as drug-related offenses. The sentences, delivered by Judge Molly Keane, encompass two separate cases.

In the first case, the 40-year-old was convicted of terroristic threats, use of a firearm to commit a felony, and possession of a firearm as a prohibited person. In the second case, Wright was sentenced for two counts of drug possession with intent to distribute.

Police Investigation and Shootout

Omaha Police had been investigating Wright for several months as a suspected drug dealer. Court documents revealed that undercover officers purchased fentanyl from him using a confidential informant.

The October 3, 2023, incident escalated when Wright allegedly pointed a gun at a 911 caller near 21st and Pinkney Streets. The confrontation triggered a high-speed chase involving multiple police vehicles, unmarked units, and the Omaha Police helicopter. The pursuit culminated in a shootout, during which Wright was injured.

Conviction and Sentencing

Wright’s conviction followed a four-day trial in October 2024. The charges reflect both the dangerous nature of the chase and Wright’s prior criminal activity. His sentencing underscores the gravity of his actions and his involvement in drug trafficking within the community.

This case highlights law enforcement efforts to combat drug-related crimes and ensure public safety in Omaha.
