OMAHA, Nebraska (WOWT) – As Christmas approaches, residents and visitors flocked to Village Pointe on Tuesday to pick up last-minute gifts.
“We did some last-minute shopping for my niece and nephew, trying to equal out the gifts here to make sure everyone got a fair amount of gifts,” said Bellevue resident Lombe Tranmer.
“Mainly, I was looking for a new pair of shoes,” said Blake Marshall, a visitor from Jacksonville. “It’s hard for me, I am trying to switch up my style a little bit.”
As the big day approaches, shoppers stock up on gift cards, apparel, shoes, electronics, and other items. “The list is constantly being updated, so it’s always nice to get what they’re looking for when they want it,” said Weston Walls from Omaha.
“I got him a golf pool set; he loves golf and pool,” said Gretna homeowner Heather Gragert, who was shopping for her son.
For some, last-minute gift shopping has become a ritual. “We live fairly close to here,” said Rodney Ruh from Omaha. “We’ll come here stop at Kona, maybe have a drink, then buy a couple gifts, then back have another drink and so its kind of become a tradition over the last several years.”
But for many, it’s an opportunity to grab one more present to put under the tree.
Many people pondered on their first gifts and the traditions that they cherish. “We will do Christmas Eve tonight, and Christmas morning then off to our hometown for the holidays,” according to Heather Gragert.
Shoppers thanked those who worked on Christmas Eve so they could buy gifts for loved ones or those in need. “Socks, sweatpants, hoodies, anything that can keep them warm in the cold,” said Papillion resident Jenna Kramer. “It’s not really comfortable to be out in the cold.”
On Christmas Day, petrol stations and businesses such as Walgreens or CVS are frequently open for last-minute shopping.
