SIDNEY – The Sidney Lady Raiders and Red Raiders won the Sidney Holiday Shootout at Cabela’s Athletic Facility on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Raiders dominated the girl’s championship game from the start, defeating Fillmore Central, while the Red Raiders rallied from a double-digit deficit to defeat Fillmore Central in the boy’s championship game.
Kayla Westby made two of her three shots from beyond the arc to give the Lady Raiders a commanding 20-5 lead in the first quarter. Sidney scored 10 points off of seven first-period offensive rebounds, as the Lady Raiders dominated the boards throughout the game.
Sidney’s defense limited the Panthers to a single field goal on one of 12 attempts in the second quarter, allowing them to lead 30-7 at halftime. Sidney maintained their lead in the second half, stretching it to 42-13 midway through the third quarter before winning the championship game 53-26.
Kayla West led the Lady Raiders with 14 points, while Carli Black contributed 12 points. Sidney outrebounded Fillmore Central 39-18. Filmore Central was led by sophomore Ali Nichols with eight points, and senior MaKenna McCoy added seven.
Sidney improves to 6-3 on the season, while Fillmore Central drops to 3-6.
Fillmore Central got off to a strong start in the boys’ game. Dan Stoner, a 6’4″ senior, was unstoppable early on, scoring 16 first-quarter points as Fillmore Central led 22-14 after one period.
The Panthers extended their lead to 29-18 midway through the second period, when Alek Doty ignited the Red Raiders’ comeback. The junior made three three-pointers as Sidney went on a 13-2 run to tie the game 31-31 at halftime.
The Red Raiders maintained their momentum after intermission, outscoring the Panthers 21-14 in the third to take a 52-45 lead into the fourth quarter. Sidney built a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter, leading 61-47 with 2:48 left in the game and winning 64-54.
Alek Doty led the way with 24 points, Lance Holly added 12 points, and Landon Riddle scored eight. Fillmore Central was led by Dan Stoner’s game-high 26 points, with senior Kiffin Theobald adding 14. Sidney remains unbeaten at 8-0 for the season, while Fillmore Central falls to 5-3.
Sidney’s 2025 schedule begins on Friday, January 3rd, when they travel to Alliance for a Western Conference game against the Bulldogs. Junior Varsity games begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by girls’ varsity at 2:30 p.m. and boys’ varsity at 4:00 p.m.
