Then one foggy Christmas Eve…” predicts a foggy holiday.

Then one foggy Christmas Eve... predicts a foggy holiday.

This year’s Christmas holiday in Omaha will be foggy. Visibility on highways may be poor Tuesday night, with the possibility of freezing fog if air temperatures fall below freezing in your area.

Dense fog will develop on Tuesday evening and night. Temperatures will drop into the upper 20s tonight, with a danger of freezing fog on Christmas morning. Most ice impacts should be limited to visible surfaces such as bridges. But be careful if you intend to drive tonight!

It will take several hours for the morning fog to clear. Wednesday will be gloomy, but neighborhoods west of Omaha may see some sunshine later in the day. Due to the significant cloud cover, highs will be in the mid-30s.

Those who can catch the midday sun, however, may reach temperatures of up to 40 degrees. This is approximately the average for Christmas.

Spotty and very light rain will begin to fall across the region on Thursday during Kwanza. There will be just enough rain to keep things dark and dreary for most of the day. It may not look good, but temperatures should rise to around 40.

Rain will be more likely on Friday, particularly in Omaha and western Iowa. Some cities west of Omaha may miss out on the rain because the core of low pressure will be much to the east of us. This keeps us foggy, but we continue to warm up. High temperatures will be in the mid-40s.

Saturday appears to be much drier, though there may still be a few isolated lingering showers in the region in the morning. There will be far more clouds than sunshine, but temperatures will remain above average, ranging from the upper 40s to near 50.

Sunday promises additional sunlight as highs hover around 50 degrees.

Another system approaches New Year’s week on Monday, bringing the possibility of rain and, if cold enough, snow. Monday’s highs will be in the mid-40s, with temperatures dropping to the mid-30s on Tuesday.
