$2,000 checks from Social Security in February 2025 find out if you get one and when

Month after month, the United States’ Social Security Administration (SSA) sends out millions of benefits checks nationwide.

Who gets Social Security checks in the US?

Beneficiaries of the SSA’s major Social Security programs include those receiving retirement or survivors’ benefits, those enrolled in the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program, and those eligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

After issuing all checks for benefits under the aforementioned schemes in January 2025, the SSA is preparing to begin February payments.

How much do Social Security recipients get?

Retired workers, who accounted for roughly 70% of all Social Security beneficiaries in December 2024, receive an average monthly benefit of $1,976.

Disabled workers on SSDI receive an average monthly payment of $1,580, while Americans on survivors’ benefits receive an average of $1,832 per month.

The maximum monthly check for an individual recipient under the SSI scheme is currently $967, which differs from the programs mentioned above in that it is needs-based rather than contribution-based.

When will February 2025 Social Security payments be made?

SSI

SSI recipients will receive their February payments one day early. SSI checks are normally issued on the first of each month, but payment is moved forward if the month begins on a weekend day or a holiday.

Since February 1 is a Saturday, the SSA will issue checks for this program on Friday, January 31.

It’s worth noting that March starts on a weekend day, so SSI checks will be issued early, on Friday, February 28.

Retirement, disability (SSDI) and survivors’ benefits

Most other Social Security beneficiaries will receive payments on one of three Wednesdays in February, as part of a staggered system that determines a recipient’s payment date based on their birthday. The schedule goes as follows:

Wednesday, February 12: Recipients born between 1st and 10th of the month

Wednesday, February 19: Recipients born between 11th and 20th of the month

Wednesday, February 26: Recipients born between 21st and 31st of the month

Any there exceptions to this Social Security payment schedule?

Yes. Recipients of retirement, disability (SSDI), and survivors’ benefits who started receiving checks before May 1997 are always paid on the third of the month, regardless of their birth date.

These beneficiaries will be paid on Monday, February 3, 2025.
