According to the OPD, Man was arrested after ramming a police cruiser and leaving children at the scene

OMAHA, Nebraska – A man is in custody after leading Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputies on a foot chase following a pursuit Thursday night.

According to a statement released Friday, a man was arrested after the car he was driving led DCSO deputies on a pursuit, followed by a foot chase near 73rd and Nebraska Plaza.

The driver of the car was cited for driving with a suspended license and no working brake lights.

The DCSO identified the man, a passenger in the car, as Dontavious Haynes, 31.

After being booked by deputies, Omaha Police added additional charges related to an incident that occurred on January 22.

According to police, Haynes rammed his vehicle into an OPD cruiser and fled the scene. Police later discovered his children inside the vehicle.

Haynes was charged with misdemeanor domestic violence assault, felony false imprisonment, obstructing an officer, and fleeing to avoid arrest.

For the incident on January 22, OPD added four felony child abuse/neglect charges, one felony flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

According to the DCSO, Haynes is currently serving a three-year supervised probation sentence for an incident in 2023 in which he pleaded guilty to Attempted Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Prohibited Person and Attempted Possession of a Stolen Firearm.
