As part of an unlicensed vehicle operation, Omaha police impound over 300 cars

OMAHA – The Omaha Police Department conducted a month-long operation to crack down on unlicensed vehicles throughout the city.

According to an OPD statement released on Monday, the operation targeted vehicles with expired license plates, invalid in-transit stickers, and so-called “dead storage” vehicles.

This operation took place between November 18 and December 20, 2024.

As a result of the operation, OPD officers issued 1,300 towing notices and 836 parking citations.

Officers also seized 354 and recovered 48 vehicles.

A similar operation in April 2023 resulted in over 1,500 citations for similar reasons.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, some reasons for failure to renew registration include rising costs, changing addresses, or forgetting to register a vehicle.
