Authorities identify the man arrested for the pursuit and officer-involved shooting

OMAHA, Nebraska — A Bellevue man is in custody, and no one was injured in a chase and officer-involved shooting in southwest Omaha early Saturday morning.

According to the Nebraska State Patrol, at 12:40 a.m. Saturday, a State Trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop with a Jeep Commander for speeding on westbound Interstate 80 near 96th Street.

According to an NSP update from Saturday afternoon, the Jeep was taken.

When the Jeep refused to stop, the trooper pursued it until he arrived at an apartment complex near 108th and Harrison streets.

According to NSP, troopers instructed the vehicle to stop, after which the Jeep rammed three NSP patrol units, a garage, and a retaining wall at the apartment complex.

The driver then began driving at troopers who were out of their vehicles, prompting two troopers to fire shots at the driver.

The driver was not hit by the gunfire, but his car was eventually disabled, and he was arrested after another trooper used a taser.

NSP identified the driver as 42-year-old Timothy Sorensen of Bellevue.

According to NSP, neither the driver nor any troopers were injured in the incident. Alcohol is suspected to have played a role and will be investigated, according to NSP.

Sorensen was incarcerated in Douglas County Jail for Flight to Avoid Arrest, Willful Reckless Driving, Assault on an Officer While Operating a Vehicle, Driving Under Suspension, Driving Under the Influence, Motor Vehicle Theft, Leaving the Scene of a Crash, Criminal Mischief, and Failure to Obey a Legal Order.
