OMAHA, Nebraska – The Assembly of the Saints in North Omaha is collecting donations for City View residents.
According to city officials, 20% of the building has issues, and if the owners do not get it up to code by the end of the month, they will be forced to vacate the entire structure.
This donation drive is looking for winter gear like hats, scarves, and mittens.
This is also because some residents of the complex report that heating in some units is inconsistent.
“Community organizing is essential,” Assembly of the Saints founder Gary Ballard stated. “A community is just multiple families put together, so all you do is just break it back down tot whatever you would do for yourself and your own family and extend it to others.”
“I think it is important because it demonstrates that the community cares. “We support the people in that tower,” U.N.T.A.M.E.D. founder Sherman Wells stated. “We’re in north Omaha. They’re in South Omaha. It does not matter. We want to show them that we care.”
The distribution will take place at City View on Tuesday, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. There will also be free meals provided by the Haven Express food truck.
If you still want to donate items, please drop them off at The Assembly of Saints on January 27 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., or on the day of the event at City View.
