The Hy-Vee grocery store chain has announced that it is bidding farewell to the Wahlburgers restaurant chain.
According to the Corridor Business Journal, Hy-Vee announced in a press release earlier this month that all in-store Wahlburger locations would be rebranded as Hy-Vee Market Grilles.
The restaurant transition will take place in stages and will begin on February 4th. According to the CBJ, the first Wahlburgers opened in 2018 in West Des Moines, replacing the Market Grille restaurant. A Hy-Vee spokesperson confirmed that there are 79 Wahlburgers in Hy-Vee locations.
According to the CBJ, several Wahlburgers can be found at Hy-Vee locations in Eastern Iowa, including one in Cedar Rapids, two in Coralville, one in Iowa City, one in Muscatine, one in Davenport and one in Dubuque.
According to Hy-Vee officials, the number of employees at these locations will remain constant despite the change. Hy-Vee will continue to sell Wahlburgers at Home products in its stores.
According to the CBJ, the new Hy-Vee Market Grille will serve breakfast and burgers. A new lunch and dinner menu will be available during the month of February. The BLT, Market Grille burgers, and tenderloins will return on the new menu, while wings and wontons will remain available.
According to the CBJ, hashbrowns will return to the breakfast menu, along with omelets, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, French toast, and breakfast burritos.
According to the Chicago Business Journal, Hy-Vee will have 221 Market Grille and Market Grille Express locations in the Midwest following the transition.
