In Missouri, an Omaha woman charged following a drunken high-speed chase

Independence, Missouri – An Omaha woman has been charged in connection with an early morning high-speed chase that began in Independence while she was heavily intoxicated.

According to Jackson County, Missouri Circuit Court records filed on Monday, Jan. 20, Nautica Patterson, 25, of Omaha, has been charged with a high-speed chase on I-70 with two teenage passengers in her car.

According to the Independence Police Department’s probable cause statement, just after 1:55 a.m. on Monday, officers attempted to stop a silver Ford Fusion with no license plate as it sped eastbound on Highway 40 near the Blue Ridge Cutoff.

Law enforcement officials said they caught up with the driver, identified as Patterson, and attempted to pull her over. Instead, Patterson sped north on 35th St. at approximately 75 mph until she reached eastbound Highway 40 again.

Investigators noted that Patterson’s disregard for traffic caused two drivers to come to a halt as she turned onto the highway and sped north at speeds of 85 mph or higher. She exited the highway at Sterling Ave., performed a U-turn, and returned to eastbound Highway 40.

Law enforcement officials said she eventually made her way onto westbound I-70, where she reached speeds of nearly 115 mph. She exited the interstate on 23rd St. and drove to a parking lot on Indiana St., where she almost hit another car.

Officers reported that Patterson made it to Linwood Blvd., where a tire deflation device was successfully used. She continued on Indiana until she came to a stop near 39th Street.

When law enforcement officials said they finally made contact with Patterson, they discovered two other teenage passengers, ages 14 and 16, in the back seat. When she was taken into custody, they could smell the strong odor of alcohol. She blew a breathalyzer with a blood alcohol level of 0.116.

Patterson was arrested after it was discovered that she had a felony warrant for theft out of Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was charged with aggravated fleeing a stop, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and driving while intoxicated. If convicted, she faces up to 22 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.

Patterson was still in Jackson County jail on Thursday, Jan. 23, on a $75,000 bond with a hold for Pottawatomie County, Iowa. A bond review hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29, followed by a preliminary hearing at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 24.
