President Joe Biden may soon have a new job title: great grandfather.
Naomi Biden, the eldest granddaughter of Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden, announced in November that she is expecting her first child. And now the baby is due. In an exclusive interview with USA TODAY, the president revealed that she has a C-section scheduled for Wednesday.
“I am about to be a great-grandfather, Jesus God,” he said on Sunday, smiling during a meeting at the White House.
Naomi Biden is the eldest daughter of Hunter Biden, Joe Biden’s son, and Kathleen Buhle, an author. She is a lawyer who married attorney Peter Neal on the South Lawn of the White House in November 2022. The ceremony marked the first time a sitting president’s grandchild was married at the White House.
Joe and Jill Biden have seven grandchildren. Hunter Biden has four daughters and one son. Beau Biden, Joe Biden’s son and Jill Biden’s step-son, died of brain cancer in 2015. He has a daughter and a son.
The president’s eldest grandchild has often remained out of the spotlight, but she has traveled frequently with Joe and Jill Biden. She and Neal have lived in the White House.
Naomi Biden announced her pregnancy on Election Day, which is appropriate for a member of a political family.
“(We) voted,” Biden captioned the post, which included an American flag and an upside-down smiley face emoji.
After President Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race earlier that year, his eldest granddaughter spoke out.
“I am nothing but proud today of my Pop, our President, Joe Biden, who has served our country with every bit of his soul and with unmatched distinction,” Naomi Biden said in a message to X. “Not only has he been—and will continue to be—the most effective president of our lifetime, but he has likely already cemented himself as the most effective and impactful public servant in our nation’s history.”
In June of last year, she testified in her father’s federal gun trial about his substance abuse struggles. Hunter Biden was convicted on all charges in the case, but his father, Joe Biden, pardoned him in December.
