'Knew she was dead' Husband unloads entire clip on wife he suspected of cheating as she tried to flee in front of pleading children, authorities say

According to authorities, a Florida man murdered his wife in front of their young children as she attempted to climb out the home’s window because he suspected she was cheating on him.

Rogelio Prestol, 46, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his wife, Jhesandra Prestol, 40, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a probable cause arrest affidavit, deputies responded to the 13000 block of Holtville Avenue in Port Charlotte shortly before 7:30 p.m. Sunday after the husband called 911 to report that he had killed his wife.

Paramedics arrived to find the victim lying facedown on the residence’s walkway, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. They pronounced her dead.

Two children reportedly witnessed the shooting but were not physically harmed. One of the children told cops that “his ears hurt because he was really close when his father shot his mother,” according to the affidavit.

Prestol told detectives in an interview after receiving his Miranda warning that he suspected his wife of having an affair within the last two months, according to the affidavit. According to cops, he discovered she was using TikTok and Telegram to communicate with someone. When he confronted her about it, she allegedly said she wanted a divorce.

Prestol became suspicious on the day in question that his wife was sending money to the person she had been communicating with online, according to the affidavit. He demanded that she unlock her phone so he could read her messages, but she refused, he told police.

He allegedly pulled out a 9 mm handgun and pointed it at his wife “in an attempt to scare her into complying,” according to cops. According to police, one of their children saw this and “pleaded with the victim to just comply” with the demand.

At this point, Jhesandra Prestol started climbing out of the home office window. Her husband allegedly started shooting at her. She made it outside, but the suspect moved to the front porch and continued firing at her “until he ran out of ammunition,” according to the affidavit. He later allegedly told cops that he never went to her aid because he “knew she was dead.”

She had gunshot wounds to her buttocks, back, arm, and chest.

After allegedly murdering his wife, Rogelio Prestol claimed he called his brother to tell him what he had done. He stated that he intended to commit suicide, but his brother talked him out of it and advised him to call 911, which he did. The suspect told police that he believed he deserved the death penalty.

Prestol was taken to the Charlotte County Jail and is currently being held without bond. His next court date is set for Friday.

Neighbors Tyler and Cindi Starr told Fort Myers Fox affiliate WFTX that the Prestol family only moved in a few months ago.

“He seemed like a really nice guy,” she told the publication. “Usually I have like feelers you know, never once got an inkling that he would be capable of something like this.”

Tyler Starr claimed they did not hear any gunshots but did notice flashing lights outside.

“There’s like 50 cops outside our door, so like any other citizen we ran to our window and looked out and there was a line of police, with shields [and] AR15’s,” he told me. “They had shotguns and I noticed they were going right down our road to our neighbor’s house.”

Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell described the killing as a “despicable” act.

“There are no words to express how terrible this is or the impact it will have on so many lives,” according to a statement. “The act is despicable, and it is exacerbated by the fact that children were present at the time. My heart is broken for them and everyone who knew Jhesandra.

Domestic violence of any kind is disgusting, and I hope that anyone who is going through it sees this and realizes that this is a possible outcome. Please know that you are not alone, and there is help available. “Do not wait until this happens to you.”
