Missouri — One Missouri lawmaker wants to make tax time a little easier for families.
Senator Josh Hawley proposes expanding the child tax credit.
It currently has a maximum of $2,000 per child, which he hopes to increase to $5,000.
Hawley also wants to see that happen in installments throughout the year rather than all at once during tax season.
“Every week, every month you get your check, it’s like, there’s the deduction right there. So you’re paying those taxes. And I think if you’ve got kids, you ought to get a tax cut.
You ought to get a tax cut against those payroll taxes that come out of your paycheck every single pay period. My plan would be five thousand dollars per child,” said Hawley.
Hawley points to the challenges in the current economy as critical to helping working families pay for costs related to raising their children.
