Morehead City, NC – Residents in eastern North Carolina are expecting heavy snowfall and hazardous travel conditions through Wednesday morning.
Carteret, Craven, Pamlico, Tyrrell, and Hyde counties, as well as the Outer Banks, are under a Winter Storm Warning from 5 p.m. today until 7 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service, 6 to 8 inches of snow is expected, with the heaviest accumulation east of Highway 17. The commutes on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning will be impacted by hazardous conditions.

Snowfall is expected to begin tonight after 10 p.m., with temperatures dropping to 24°F. Gusty winds of up to 23 mph will cause reduced visibility and wind chills as low as 10°F. Commuters and travelers should call 511 to stay updated on road conditions and prepare emergency supplies if travel is unavoidable.
The winter storm is part of a larger cold snap, with extremely cold wind chills lasting until Wednesday morning. Temperatures will peak at 33°F on Wednesday before skies clear, but roads may remain hazardous.
Looking ahead, Thursday will see a slight chance of freezing rain early, followed by milder conditions on Friday, with highs reaching 42°F. Overnight low temperatures will remain near or below freezing, prolonging icy conditions on untreated surfaces.
