Omaha City Council will vote on cancelling liquor license for troubled bar

OMAHA – A downtown bar with a troubled past has been targeted by neighbors and now city hall.

On Tuesday afternoon, the City Council voted 6-1 to hold a hearing next week to determine whether Krush Ultra Lounge’s liquor license should be cancelled.

The Law Department cited 16 incidents since last April in which police were called to the business, ranging from assaults to open containers and even a shooting.

“The disturbances that have taken place first as the Throwback Lounge and now Krush Ultra Lounge – we all want business to succeed, but it is clear to me that the pattern of behavior has not been corrected, it is worsened,” Danny Begley, a city councilor from Omaha, said.

Council member Aimee Melton stated that this is a rare move by the council.

“The law committee has called these owners in multiple times,” Melton told the crowd. “I think the law committee and Omaha Police have bent over backwards to get owners to correct their ways.”

The hearing is scheduled for January 21, at 1 p.m.

Last year, the City Council unanimously decided not to renew the liquor license due to similar issues.

However, when the owners reapplied to the state, the Liquor Commission issued a license with restrictions.
