Omaha Police make an arrest in relation to the death of a 6-year-old girl

OMAHA – A 6-year-old girl died last month after being shot in North Omaha. Police have arrested someone in connection with the case.

One count of child abuse by neglect and one count of child abuse by intent were filed against Yolonda Barfield, 33, on Monday.

At 4 p.m. on December 15, Omaha Police were called to the area of 33rd Street and Redick Avenue, close to Miller Park, because someone had been shot.

Authorities found Alonni Barfield, 6, with a gunshot wound when they got there. The girl was taken to the hospital, but she died there.

According to court records, Yolonda Barfield is Alonni’s mother. The police said there were more kids in the house at the time of the trouble. As of last Thursday, they were still being watched over.

First Alert 6 was told by Omaha Public Schools that the girl was in kindergarten at Minne Lusa Elementary school.

The investigation is still going on.
