Parents Refuse to Take Their 13-year-old Daughter From the Hospital

A 13-year-old girl from Indiana was admitted to the hospital after experiencing a mental health crisis following a heated exchange with her mother.

When the hospital called Amanda Osmon, her mother, to pick her up, she refused, saying, “I’m not dealing with this s*** tonight!” according to the Daily Mail. Both Osmon and the girl’s stepfather, Jeffrey Scheda, were arrested and face neglect charges.

The girl went to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis for a mental health evaluation. According to the outlet, she and her mother had a heated argument that lasted from Saturday night to early Sunday morning, January 26.

Following her evaluation, hospital staff attempted to contact both Osmon, 36, and Scheda, 41, so that they could pick up their daughter when she was discharged.

However, Osmon allegedly refused to take her 13-year-old daughter from the hospital. Furthermore, staff members claim they overheard both parents drinking during their conversation.

According to 14News, one social worker spoke with Scheda and attempted to get him to help Osmon contact the hospital. However, Scheda refused and hung up. Osmon eventually called back and allegedly became hostile to the hospital’s staff. That’s when she informed the social worker, “I’m not dealing with this s*** tonight!”

After repeated refusals to pick up the girl, authorities became involved. When police arrived at the girl’s parents’ house, they discovered that both Osmon and Scheda were heavily intoxicated. They reportedly drank and passed out while the girl was being evaluated at St. Vincent Hospital.

Furthermore, Amanda Osmon and Jeffrey Scheda lied to police officers about their uncooperative and hostile interactions with hospital staff and social workers, according to the Daily Mail.

Both parents reportedly expected their 13-year-old daughter to spend the night in the hospital. They said she’d been admitted to the hospital before.

Police eventually arrested Osmon and Scheda due to their hostile attitude toward officers and refusal to cooperate. They charged them both with neglect. They were booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail and released shortly after.
