The February Supplemental Security Income payment, worth up to $967, will be distributed to millions of beneficiaries within six days.
According to the Social Security Administration, SSI payments are made to people who have debilitating disabilities that limit their earning capacity. The next SSI payments are scheduled to be distributed on January 31.
The amount received is determined by several factors, including the number of people who file. Individual applicants can receive up to $967 per month, couples filing jointly can receive up to $1,450, and essential persons, or those who provide necessary care to SSI recipients, can receive up to $484. Since last year, inflation has pushed these figures up by 2.5%.
Recipients can use an SSA calculator to determine their payment amount.
SSI payments and regular Social Security benefits are unrelated. Those receiving Social Security payments are not automatically eligible for SSI payments, and vice versa.
Filers must be at least partially blind or have a “physical or mental condition(s) that seriously limits their daily activities for 12 months or more or may be expected to result in death.”
