LINCOLN, Nebraska — First responders rushed two people from the scene of a head-on crash just east of Lincoln late Monday night and early Tuesday morning.
The accident occurred just before midnight on the bridge crossing Stevens Creek, just east of the 120th and O Street (Highway 34) intersection.
According to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, the collision involved an eastbound Dodge Caravan driven by a 23-year-old Missouri man and a westbound Ford Escape driven by a 34-year-old Omaha resident. One of the drivers became trapped and had to be freed from the vehicle.
Both drivers were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
Volunteers from Southeast Fire and Rescue were on the scene, as were an ambulance and another Lincoln Fire & Rescue vehicle. The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office closed all of O Street east of 120th Street until shortly before 2:30 a.m.
The LSO suspects alcohol was a factor in the crash and is investigating.
