Ulster County guy arrested for crashing into a state police car

LLOYD, N.Y. — According to the New York State Police (NYSP), an arrest was made after a collision that occurred in Lloyd on January 1. Several DWI-related accusations are pending against one of the involved drivers.

Troops stopped a 2016 Volkswagen on State Route 44/55 in Lloyd on Wednesday at approximately 2:52 a.m. for allegedly breaking traffic and vehicle laws.

State police reported that a 36-year-old Marlboro man rear-ended the halted NYSP truck while driving his 2025 Volkswagen on the road, causing the troop vehicle to collide with the 2016 Volkswagen.

When troopers interviewed the man after the incident, they noticed a distinct alcohol stench. As a result, he was asked to take field sobriety tests, which he reportedly failed. At the scene, the individual was placed under arrest.

According to reports, the Marlboro man’s breath sample had a blood alcohol value of 0.16%. He was accused of operating a motor vehicle with 0.08 to 1% alcohol in his blood and driving while inebriated.

According to state police, the troop car’s emergency lights were all on when the collision occurred. At Dutchess Vassar Brothers Hospital, the two passengers in the 2016 Volkswagen, a 23-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, received minor medical attention. Mid-Hudson Hospital also provided minimal medical care for two state troopers.

In addition to traffic tickets, the Marlboro man was given an appearance ticket at Lloyd Town Court on January 21.
