Grand Junction, CO – A winter weather advisory has been issued for parts of western Colorado, with significant snowfall expected starting Friday evening.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Grand Junction says the advisory will be in effect from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Sunday. Elkhead and Park Mountains, Flat Tops, and cities like Columbine, Hahns Peak, Toponas, Buford, and Trappers Lake have all been affected. Snowfall totals of 4 to 8 inches are expected.
The NWS warns that the region’s roads, bridges, and overpasses will become slick and hazardous as snow accumulates. Drivers are urged to slow down and be cautious when driving.
Travelers can stay up to date on road conditions by calling 511, a statewide traffic information line. The advisory comes as Colorado experiences a series of winter storms typical for late January, which could cause travel delays in mountainous areas.
Residents are encouraged to prepare for winter driving conditions by keeping emergency supplies in their vehicles and regularly checking forecasts. Snow is expected to stop early Sunday morning, but icy roads may persist throughout the day.
Stay tuned for more updates as the system progresses.
