Greenville, NC – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for parts of eastern North Carolina, with snow expected to begin Tuesday evening.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Newport/Morehead City, the advisory will be in effect from 5 p.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday. Martin, Pitt, Greene, Duplin, and Lenoir counties could see up to one inch of snowfall.
The NWS warns that slippery road conditions could develop, especially during the Tuesday evening commute and into Wednesday morning. Drivers are advised to reduce speed, allow extra time for travel, and exercise caution on untreated surfaces.
Major cities in the advisory area, such as Greenville, Kinston, and Wallace, may experience light snow accumulations, posing localized risks. These conditions are unusual for this area, which usually has milder winter weather.
Before traveling, residents are encouraged to dial 511 to check road conditions and receive local weather updates. It is also recommended to prepare by clearing sidewalks and ensuring proper vehicle maintenance.
The advisory is expected to expire at 7 a.m. Wednesday, as temperatures rise and conditions improve. Stay tuned for updates from the NWS and local authorities.
