Birmingham, Alabama — A winter weather advisory has been issued for portions of central Alabama, with up to one inch of snow expected from 6 a.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday.
The advisory includes the following counties: Autauga, Bibb, Chambers, Chilton, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Greene, Hale, Marengo, Perry, Randolph, Sumter, and Tallapoosa. Selma, Prattville, Clanton, and Alexander City are among the cities expected to have slippery roads during the advisory period.
According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, the snow could make travel dangerous, especially during the Tuesday morning and evening commutes. Drivers are advised to slow down and be cautious on roads, particularly bridges and overpasses.
Higher elevations are expected to see the most severe impacts, though accumulations are likely to be less than an inch. Residents are encouraged to check local forecasts for updates and to plan for potential travel delays.
Temperatures will remain near freezing throughout the event, increasing the likelihood of ice formation. Those traveling early Wednesday should be cautious of slick spots, particularly in rural and less-traveled areas.
