Winter Weather Alert Up to 7 PM, Wichita Will Be Affected by Heavy Snow Near the Oklahoma Border

Wichita, Kansas – A Winter Weather Advisory is still in effect for South Central Kansas, including Wichita, until 7 p.m. CST, as light to moderate snow continues to blanket the area.

The National Weather Service issued the advisory earlier today, warning of up to another inch of snow accumulation. Areas near the Oklahoma border may have slightly higher totals. Slippery road conditions and low visibility are expected, posing challenges for evening commuters.

Butler, Kingman, Sedgwick, Harper, Sumner, and Cowley counties are among those affected by the advisory. Cities such as Wichita, El Dorado, Arkansas City, and Andover are expected to experience hazardous driving conditions.

Travelers are advised to slow down and exercise caution on snow-covered roads. Residents can check current road conditions by dialing 511.

While the snow is expected to stop after 7 p.m., slick spots may remain on untreated surfaces. Motorists should plan accordingly and allow extra time for evening travel.
