Grand Rapids, MI – A winter storm warning remains in effect for parts of southwest and west central Michigan until 10 a.m. Thursday. The storm is expected to bring heavy lake-effect snow and hazardous travel conditions.
The National Weather Service reports that Muskegon, Ottawa, and Newaygo counties have received 4 to 9 inches of snowfall. Winds gusting up to 35 mph will cause whiteout conditions, limiting visibility to less than 1/4 mile at times.
Commuters can expect significant disruptions during the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning rush hours. Officials advise drivers to avoid travel whenever possible and to keep emergency supplies like a flashlight, food, and water in their vehicles.
The storm is one of the most significant weather events of the season in the region, with conditions especially dangerous along lake-effect snow bands.
Residents should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions and keep an eye out for updates from local authorities.
