A woman charged with murdering a 17-year-old in Omaha last year changed her plea in court Thursday.
Kianna Opal, 19, pleaded “no contest” to one count of second-degree murder and one count of having a weapon while committing a felony. Both charges were reduced in severity as part of the plea agreement.
On the early morning of May 12, 2024, Omaha Police responded to a “medical nature unknown” call near North 53rd and Spaulding Street.
They arrived to discover that a victim, 17-year-old Ezra Sinkiawic, was already being transported to the hospital in a private vehicle with stab wounds. She died of her injuries shortly after.
Witnesses reported that the suspect, Opal, was still on the scene. Police took her into custody without incident.
Opal is scheduled to be sentenced on April 23. She faces 20 to life in prison.
