Omaha Bakery Surprised Father With Memento Harking Back to the Business's Origin

OMAHA, Nebraska – Rotella’s Bakery doesn’t let history fade away.

“Okay, we’re going to go to the wall.”

I am proudly displaying it. Lou Jr. remembers his father, Louis Rotella Senior.

“It’s got my father with that 1948 truck,” Lou Jr. said. “I might not even be 2 years old here, because I was born in 1949 and the truck is a ’48.”

This truck, one of their old delivery trucks, brings back fond memories for Lou Jr. Even if some details are unclear.

“He thought the truck was green, but I don’t remember that,” Lou Jr. replied.

The color may have faded with time, but the feelings have not.

“They brought me to the garage, and when I seen it, I had tears, holding back crying actually.”

A long-time employee discovered a close match for the same delivery truck when he was a child. And Lou Jr.’s son purchased it.

“I took a gamble and made the purchase,” Lou Jr.’s son, John Rotella, said.

John had been looking for a match for almost two decades.

“Being a multi-generational business, it means a lot to us,” John told me.

They can recreate the photo, but more importantly, relive the memories.

As the Rotella tradition continues.

“Priceless.”

The family intends to leave the car on display at their 108th and Harrison location for you to see.
