As St. Patrick’s Day approaches, neighbors celebrate by honoring their Irish American heritage. The 10th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Irish American Awards recognized this cultural background on Saturday with a brunch and awards ceremony honoring Irish Americans.

The event included Irish poetry, dance, and music.

“Some of the founding families, including the Cavanaughs, came to Omaha at its inception and helped shape it into the wonderful community it is today. “We want to celebrate our heritage by getting together and remembering where we came from,” said Jim Cavanaugh, a member of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners.

This year, Father Tom Fangman, Mike McCarville, JoAnn McGee, and Ed Walsh were honored for their outstanding contributions to the community.
