The Ordone family of the popular “Okay Baby” TikTok account has suffered a tragic loss.
Preston Ordone, the 2-year-old son of Katelynn and Jaelen Ordone and nicknamed the “Okay Baby,” died in a car accident on April 24.
According to a press release from Louisiana State Police, Preston’s vehicle, a 2011 Ford F-150, “veered off the roadway to the right and struck a tree,” with the cause “still under investigation.”
According to the release, the driver and front passenger, who were “both properly restrained, sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital.”
According to police, Preston was seated in the rear but “improperly restrained in a child safety seat.” He was taken to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately “later succumbed to his injuries.”
On Sunday, April 27, two family members posted a video on Katelynn’s social media accounts outlining their version of events. They stated that the Ordones’ older daughter Paisley was thankfully not in the car at the time of the accident.
“Their truck veered to the right off the interstate and struck a tree, and Preston did not make it,” a woman named Brielle said.
Brielle added that Katelynn and Jaelan were severely injured. Katelynn has several broken bones. She had a severe concussion. She walked for the first time today. Jaelen had to undergo emergency surgery on one of his legs. He has rods and pins in them. They are both in different hospitals.”
Preston’s grandfather, Glen Norris, has disputed the police report that he was not properly secured in his car seat at the time of the accident. Norris told Nola.com that he spoke with a witness who was on the scene and said Preston was safely secured.
Norris described the police’s statement as “hurtful and painful.”
Trooper Marc Gremillion told Nola.com that what police reported was correct based on the information the state currently has.
PEOPLE has reached out to the Louisiana State Police for comment on the family’s claims and an update on the situation.
A GoFundMe page created on the family’s behalf has raised more than $30,000 of the $50,000 goal.
Preston became known as the “Okay Baby” after his videos went viral on TikTok and Instagram. He enjoyed telling Katelynn “okay” before doing the opposite of what she had asked. His videos of jumping into mud and puddles received millions of views and likes. Katelynn has 163,000 followers on Instagram and nearly 394,000 on TikTok.
