A Detroit woman and man are facing charges, including torture, for allegedly assaulting a wheelchair user, attempting to force-feed him bleach, and leaving him with severe head and brain injuries.
According to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, Brittany Walker and Samuel Payton allegedly assaulted the victim, a 44-year-old wheelchair-bound man, in a Detroit apartment on January 29, FOX 2 Detroit reported.
Walker, 35, and Payton, 62, allegedly argued with the victim prior to the assault, according to FOX 2. According to the outlet, both are accused of pouring bleach down the victim’s throat in an attempt to force him to consume it.
Following the alleged assault, the unnamed man was taken to the hospital with a cranial bleed and a fractured left orbital wall, according to FOX 2.
Walker and Payton’s relationship and connection to the victim are not immediately clear.
On Sunday, April 27, neither the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office nor Walker and Payton’s attorneys responded immediately to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
Walker and Payton were arrested and charged with multiple felonies for the assault in February, according to court records obtained by PEOPLE. Both suspects’ bonds were set at $1 million.
Payton is charged with one count each of torture and assault with intent to cause great bodily harm less than murder.
Walker is facing the same charges, as well as three additional counts of assault. She has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (felonious assault), first-degree vulnerable adult abuse, and assault or battery.
Both suspects pleaded not guilty to all charges, according to court records obtained by PEOPLE. Both are scheduled to appear in court on May 28.
