Another Texas murder trial involving a high school student who stabbed another is currently underway, but it has largely gone unnoticed in the wake of the Karmelo Anthony case.
Anthony has been charged with murder for stabbing Austin Metcalf to death at a high school track meet in Frisco earlier this month, and he has since posted bail.
His case is not the only one of its kind being heard in Texas right now, as the trial of a student who admitted stabbing his classmate to death a few years ago began this week.
Caysen Allison, now 21, admitted to killing Joe Luis Ramirez Jr., who was 18 at the time. According to an affidavit obtained by People, the 2022 incident occurred in a boys’ bathroom at Belton High School.
Allison’s lawyer argued in his opening statement on Monday that his client was defending himself against Ramirez and his friends.
Karmelo Anthony’s Case Has Similarities To Caysen Allison’s
After Monday’s opening statements, jurors were shown a video of the incident on Tuesday. In it, Ramirez is shown punching Allison, who then swings at him while holding a knife. Teenagers are seen running out of the bathroom after Ramirez is cornered.
Allison has been under house arrest since July 2022, with the incident occurring in May of that year. He posted $175,000 bail, which was reduced from $1 million, and faces five to 99 years in prison if convicted.
Unlike Karmelo Anthony, the victim fled the scene of the stabbing and was pronounced dead at the hospital after a school nurse attempted to save his life.
He was stabbed several times, including the chest, back, legs, and arm.
Meanwhile, Anthony remains under house arrest after posting $250,000 bail, which was reduced from $1 million as well.
