A freak accident killed one man and injured another as they drove home from bible study in Ohio.
On the night of Thursday, April 17, the pair was driving down Secor Road in Toledo when a tree and power lines fell on their vehicle, killing the passenger and seriously injuring the driver, according to WTVG 13 Action News.
The Toledo Fire and Rescue Department confirmed to the outlet that Richard Miller, 35, died at the scene. Officials identified the injured driver as Pastor Andrew Edward.
Northwest Baptist Church, where Edward worked, issued a statement on Facebook detailing the incident, which occurred while the pastor was dropping Miller off at home. The two had already dropped off another church member at their house earlier in the evening.
“The tree fell on the vehicle while they were waiting at a stop light,” the church stated, adding that Pastor Edwards is in “critical care, but he is stable and responsive and has movement in all extremities.”
According to the church, Pastor Edwards fractured his sternum, clavicle, and a vertebra in his back. He also has a small brain bleed that is being monitored at the hospital.”The biggest concern is a small brain bleed that they are keeping an eye on,” the group stated in a social media post.
On Saturday, April 19, the church provided an update on Pastor Edwards’ condition by posting a photo of him lying in a hospital bed wearing a neck brace and head bandages, with one arm in a sling.
“As you can see … pastor is resting well. … The Lord is certainly giving him strength,” according to the text.
Miller’s funeral will be held at Northwest Baptist Church on Saturday, April 26, according to the group.
The Toledo Fire and Rescue Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on Sunday, April 20.
