At the Douglas County courthouse, a man enters a plea after abandoning his child in the car

OMAHA – A man has entered a plea to a child abuse charge after leaving his child in a car while he was in court for violating probation last year.

Ahmed Izzadin, 33, pleaded guilty to negligent child abuse, which resulted in no injuries. The charge is a misdemeanor.

This charge is a reduction from the original charge of intentional child abuse resulting in no injury.

His sentencing date is scheduled for July 1. He is facing up to a year in prison.

Deputies were in court to take 42-year-old Ahmed Izzadin into custody for violating his probation in August 2024.

After he was taken to jail, a bystander noticed a 2-year-old child alone in Izzadin’s car at the courthouse. Izzadin never told deputies that he had left a child in his car.

The concerned citizen called 911, and police transported the child to the hospital as a precaution.
