The announcement comes as the retailer is experiencing a financial turnaround.
Barnes & Noble, the famous bookseller, has been making a comeback in recent years.
The New York-based bookstore chain recently announced plans to open 60 new locations in 2025.
The company now appears to be banking on a broader range of entertainment.
A user on social media announced that their local Barnes & Noble had recently added a section for physical media.
The user shared a photo in the Physical Media Collectors Facebook group.
The photo shows shelves stocked with DVDs, Blu-Rays, and vinyl records.
The “Movies & Music” section is designated by a sign.
FAN REACTIONS
Many users responded to the post, which received over 1,700 reactions.
The original poster shared photos of his DVD and vinyl record purchases from the store.
“Oh Boy!! “Now prepare to pay ridiculous prices,” one user said.
“Remember back in the 90s the whole back of B&N was filled with movies and CDs if you could not find a title you could pretty much find it there or Best Buy,” according to a user.
“They used to have quite an impressive section way back when,” one person said.
“From the 1990s until about ten years ago, the one on the plaza in Kansas City, MO had an entire downstairs section dedicated solely to music and movies.
“It is still there but is mostly vinyl with the outer shelves being mostly pillow pets and junk.”
Another user explained how the store shelves its merchandise.
“There is three different sizes of Barnes & Noble which will dictate how much physical media is there,” the person who commented stated.
The user explained that boutique-sized stores are typically located in malls and do not stock physical media.
Medium-sized Barnes & Noble stores only stock new releases and a limited number of Criterion Collection and Arrow titles during sales.
According to the user, only large stores carry physical media in full-size sections.
“Some are better than others but that is the basic layout of Barnes & Noble,” wrote the user.
“If you do not know what size they are, call first, any major city usually has one or two large stores within the 10 mile range.”
