SPENCER TOWNSHIP – A home collapsed during a fire northeast of Cedar Springs Saturday night, causing it to be completely destroyed, according to firefighters.

Around 3:35 p.m., a homeowner received notification from an alarm company that their home near Force Avenue and Walander Street in Spencer Township was on fire. The homeowner dialed 911, according to Spencer Township Fire Department Chief Alan Wright.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire after 45 minutes, but the structure collapsed into the basement, where vehicles and four-wheelers were parked. Wright described the home as a total loss.

A viewer sent News 8 a photo of smoke from the fire, which was visible from across nearby Lincoln Lake.

Fire departments from Montcalm Township, Lakeview, Cedar Springs, Oakfield, Sand Lake, and Grattan all helped Spencer Township.
