Nebraska football brings back the spring game scrimmage with a significant twist

As it turns out, the Nebraska football team will have a spring game/scrimmage on Saturday. Earlier this spring, the Huskers announced that instead of a spring game, they would hold a variety of events, including a volleyball showcase and a sale of NU memorabilia.

However, head coach Matt Rhule has announced that a scrimmage will now take place on April 26 at Memorial Stadium. However, this will not be the spring game that Husker fans have come to expect. Rather, Rhule billed it as an opportunity for some players to make their case.

The Nebraska football team’s new approach to the spring game will give players who may be cut from the new 105-man rosters that will be implemented this fall a chance to demonstrate their abilities.

Onlookers will undoubtedly be Cornhusker coaches, but Rhule believes it could also be a chance for players looking for a new school to demonstrate their abilities to those new schools.

Nebraska football has brand new twist on spring game scrimmage

That is not to say that the scrimmage will be treated like a preseason game, with Rhule deciding who stays and who goes. He wanted to make it clear. This is not a tryout game.

However, he made it clear that starters and potential starters will most likely not play on Saturday. Instead, guys lower on the depth chart will be looking to demonstrate their abilities.

Another important point to remember is that Nebraska football fans who hoped to watch the spring game from home will be disappointed. This new scrimmage plan will still not include any televised events.
