Omaha rescue teams stop the search for two teens and one child missing in the Missouri River, which will continue early Wednesday

OMAHA – On Tuesday night, three people went missing in the Missouri River: two 18-year-old girls and one 11-year-old girl.

Rescue crews arrived at NP Dodge Park in Omaha just before 6 p.m. and discovered four girls in the river, according to OFD Battalion Chief Coby Werner. A witness claimed they were struggling in the water.

One of the girls, a 13-year-old, managed to get out of the river. Before being taken to the hospital, she informed crews that she is related to the three others who have yet to be located.

OFD officials initially believed that all of the missing people were teenagers, but later revealed that two of the girls are 18 years old and one is 11.

On Tuesday night, eight boats, four agencies, a police helicopter, and an OFD drone helped with the rescue efforts. Crews discovered two pairs of shoes during the search, according to Werner. It is unclear whether those belong to the missing girls.

Just after 8 p.m., First Alert 6 was notified that crews had paused their search for the night due to darkness. They stated that visibility and debris in the river pose a challenge. They intend to resume their search early Wednesday morning.

Werner told First Alert 6 that the Missouri River’s current water temperature is around 45 degrees.
