Questions have been raised regarding the leadership of the former Nebraska football AD after he was once again accused of ignoring top coaches

When Trev Alberts was in charge of Lincoln’s athletic department, there were numerous accusations that he was not always the most approachable person in town. Former Nebraska football coach Scott Frost made the majority of these allegations during his first press conference with UCF.

“Yes, Terry’s been fantastic. I am grateful to have an AD who is on my side and working with me. When you are in the opposite situation, it is extremely difficult.

To be honest, it is very debilitating when you feel like you are working but do not have anyone by your side. Terry and I are on the same page. He is doing everything he can to help us succeed. And it is a good collaboration.

To some extent, Nebraska football fans could dismiss that type of complaint because Frost was looking to blame anyone else for his problems. However, reports that Texas A&M, where Alberts now coaches, lost their basketball coach suggest that NU’s former athletic director may have a pattern.

Is former Nebraska football AD repeating past mistakes at Texas A&M?

“Coaches change jobs for a variety of reasons,” ESPN analyst Seth Greenberg recently said about Aggies coach Buzz Williams’ departure from College Station for Maryland. “Coaches change jobs to get a better job, just as players switch schools to get a better job.

That happens. That is not a problem. I am going to use Buzz Williams as an example. He has not spoken with his athletic director in a year. In one year, he has not spoken with his athletic director.

It is perhaps especially surprising that this report came from Texas A&M, which has made the NCAA Tournament every year that Alberts has been there. Certainly, it appears that the former Nebraska football player and AD would prefer a positive relationship with a good coach.

It is worth noting, however, that Alberts has had to replace both his head football and baseball coaches since joining the program. His baseball coach, like his basketball coach, left on his own after a strong postseason performance. He was not fired.

The claim that Alberts has not spoken to Williams in over a year is, of course, one-sided. Former Nebraska football coach Scott Frost, however, is likely to agree that the Athletic Director can be difficult to reach at times.
