Showjumper, 60, dies after falling from horse in horrifying accident; tributes pour in to 'greatly loved' athlete

Tributes have poured in for the “greatly respected athlete.”

Chris Moyce, 60, of Canterbury, was riding in the warm-up at the Bury Farm Equestrian Centre in Bucking hamshire on April 4.

He represented Britain at various events and taught in the area.

It has now been confirmed that Mr Moyce died on Tuesday in hospital.

A spokesperson for British Showjumping stated, “It is with great sadness and regret that we confirm Chris Moyce died in hospital on April 15.

“For many years, Chris was a well-respected producer of showjumpers, including Pjort, who went on to international success with Geoff Luckett while still under his ownership. The showjumping community will miss and mourn his passing.

“All at British Showjumping would like to extend our thoughts and condolences to his family and friends.”

Heidi Luck, a close friend and fellow showjumper, said that Chris died peacefully without regaining consciousness.

“On behalf of [his partner] Mark and the rest of Chris’s family, we would like to say that Chris loved being a showjumper, and it gives us some small comfort that he spent his final day doing what he loved the most.

“Mark and the family would like to thank everyone for all their support during this difficult time.”

According to Iain Graham, Chief Executive of British Showjumping, Chris supported showjumping in a variety of ways and was highly regarded by officials, staff, and competitors.

“He was always encouraging to those starting off in the sport and gave a lot of his time in helping British Showjumping activities in his area.”
