The Social Security Administration (SSA) has released the official payment schedule for May 2025, bringing a few minor changes due to weekends. With the 2.5% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA 2025) already in place, beneficiaries can now plan for when their payments will arrive and how much they can expect.
Here’s a clear breakdown of the May 2025 Social Security and SSI (Supplemental Security Income) payment dates and updated benefit amounts.
Social Security and SSI Payment Dates for May 2025
This year, the SSA made small adjustments to the payment calendar because of weekend dates. Here’s how the schedule looks:
- May 1, 2025: SSI recipients will get their payments.
- May 2, 2025: Those who usually get payments on the 3rd (mainly people who started receiving benefits before May 1997) will get paid early, because May 3 is a Saturday.
- May 14, 2025: Social Security recipients born between the 1st and 10th of any month will receive their payments.
- May 21, 2025: Payments for those born between the 11th and 20th.
- May 28, 2025: Payments for those born between the 21st and 31st.
These Wednesday dates help the SSA process payments smoothly without delays.

Updated Benefit Amounts for 2025
With the 2025 COLA increase of 2.5%, benefit amounts are higher this year.
Here’s what recipients can expect:
Retirement benefits:
Average monthly payment: $1,976
Maximum monthly payment:
- $2,831 if claimed at age 62
- $4,018 if claimed at full retirement age (67 years)
- $5,108 if claimed by waiting until 70 years old
These maximums apply to workers who contributed the maximum to Social Security over their working lives.
Disability benefits (SSDI):
- Average monthly payment: $1,580
- No official maximum, as SSDI is based on earnings and work history.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI):
- Maximum for individuals: $967
- Maximum for couples: $1,450
Remember, SSI payments can be reduced if the recipient has additional income or resources that go over eligibility limits.
Special Note: Advance SSI Payment for June
Because June 1, 2025 falls on a Sunday, SSI recipients will receive their June payment early, on May 30, 2025.
This early deposit is only for June’s payment and does not affect the May check. Also, if you receive both Social Security and SSI, you’ll get your Social Security deposit on May 2 following the adjusted weekend schedule.
