Starting April 16, 2025, retirees in Group 3 will begin receiving their monthly Social Security payment. This is a crucial part of their income, contributing significantly to their financial stability during retirement.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) classifies retirees into different groups, and each group receives payments on different dates. These payment dates depend on the year of retirement and the retiree’s date of birth.
How Does the Social Security Payment System Work?
Once retirees begin receiving their Social Security benefits, their payment schedule is set based on the group they are assigned to. The SSA uses this classification system to ensure payments are made on specific dates each month. These dates are established when the benefit is first awarded, and they don’t change thereafter.
Who is Eligible to Receive Payments on April 16, 2025?
For Social Security beneficiaries in Group 3, the payment will be issued on April 16, 2025. To determine if you’re in Group 3 and eligible for this payment, you need to check two things:
- Year of Retirement: You must have been approved for benefits after May 1997.
- Date of Birth: Your birthdate must fall between the 11th and 20th of any month.
If both of these conditions are met, you’ll receive your Social Security payment on April 16, 2025. If you don’t meet these criteria, you will receive your payment on another day in the month, depending on your assigned group.

What If I Don’t Qualify for Group 3?
If you are not eligible for the April 16 payment, don’t worry! Social Security beneficiaries in Group 4 will receive their payments on April 23, 2025. The payments for each group are spaced throughout the month, so even if you’re not in Group 3, you will still get your payment on a specific, scheduled date.
How Much Will I Receive?
The amount of your Social Security payment can vary significantly based on your work history and earnings. Some beneficiaries may receive up to $3,500 per month, while others will receive less.
By 2025, the maximum monthly payment will reach $5,108, though very few people will qualify for this maximum amount. Generally, the more years you’ve worked and the higher your lifetime earnings, the larger your monthly payment will be.
