OMAHA – These South Omaha silos are being demolished to make way for a new apartment complex. On Monday, Omaha city councilman Ron Hug will hold a town hall meeting to inform neighbors about the project.
The old grain elevator silos on 34th and Vinton have been here for decades but have not been used for years, leaving many wondering how they fit into the neighborhood’s future.
Local developer Lite Development intends to convert them into 234 apartments and townhouses spread across four buildings.
According to City Councilman Ron Hug, some neighbors are concerned about increased traffic from a complex like this.
“There are lots of questions. This property has been an eyesore and a safety risk since the late 1970s. “It is been vacant for that long.”
The majority of the silos will be demolished, though some will remain standing. Project team members will be available at Monday’s town hall to answer neighbors’ questions and discuss how the project is progressing.
The town hall will be held at Jefferson Elementary School’s gym from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
