Supernovas attract another massive throng, overwhelmed by Vibe

OMAHA – The Omaha Supernovas drew 12,514 fans to the CHI Health Center on Saturday night—the fifth-largest crowd in U.S. pro volleyball history—but were defeated in straight sets by the Atlanta Vibe.

Despite the loss, Omaha (17-7) remains the PVF leader by half a game over Atlanta (17-8). Both teams, along with the Orlando Valkyries, have earned playoff berths for the May 9 semifinals in Las Vegas.

Saturday’s attendance was the 14th time Omaha has hosted one of the top 20 most attended pro volleyball matches in American history. The Supernovas’ season home average is now 11,241 after 12 games, with five crowds exceeding 12,000.

Brooke Nuneviller led Omaha with an 11-kill, 11-dig double-double, her 15th this season. Reagan Cooper tallied eight kills and eight digs. Kelsie Payne had seven kills and six digs, and Phoebe Awoleye contributed five kills at.417 in her second career start.

Atlanta scored.345 as a team, led by Aiko Jones (13 kills,.571) and Leah Edmond (12 kills, 9 digs). Setter Marlie Monserez set a PVF record with 46 assists in a three-set match, and the Vibe extended their league-leading win streak to 11.

Omaha returns to action Friday, April 25, hosting Columbus at 8 p.m. CT, following a spring college match between Creighton and Omaha at 5 p.m. Both events are part of the “Volleyball After Dark” doubleheader.
