Every day, Dajah Beard walks out to see this. She stated that elevators are broken, there is mold, and other problems in the building’s common areas.
“I am really depressed because my home conditions are not safe for my child and I to be there,” Beard told me.
A representative for the bank that sued the property owners stated that the building’s mounting problems influenced the decision to place the property in receivership, a legal procedure that protects creditors’ interests.
According to court documents, the building’s Florida-based owners borrowed more than $16 million on a loan and owe just under $750,000 in taxes and insurance.
Danny Begley, a City Council Member, said he does not know what will happen next but hopes to see the place fixed soon.
“We all want a safe place for people to live, and right now that is a major concern for me. Begley stated that the people who live there deserve better.
Meanwhile, residents such as Sabrina Czech claim it is far too late to save the complex.
“I hope they repair it for the people who still live here, but if not, tear it down. “It is just so gross in there,” Czech explained.
We also contacted Together Omaha, which offers assistance. It states that it is monitoring the situation and is prepared to intervene to assist people if necessary.
These residents hope that change comes sooner rather than later.
“I just hope it will get better and things will get fixed,” Beard was saying.
The bank representative tells us that City View could be sold in the next six to twelve months.
The property management informs us that the receiver could visit the property as early as Friday.
