Georgia police are looking for answers after a 37-year-old man went on a killing spree and then committed suicide.
According to Dalton Police, Kevin Andrew Akins shot and killed his wife, Rebeca Nicole Akins, 35, at her apartment on Wednesday. According to police, he then drove to his girlfriend’s apartment, Cindel Mae Rhoden, 33, and shot and killed her before committing suicide.
Rebeca Nicole Akins’ body was not discovered until Friday, when her concerned coworkers called the police.
“After being unable to get anyone to come to the door, officers were let into the residence by apartment staff and discovered the woman’s body with an apparent gunshot wound to the head,” investigators said.
In the early hours of Saturday morning, police located Kevin Andrew Akins’ vehicle at another apartment complex. While police were waiting for a search warrant, a man arrived and entered the apartment using a key.
“Police later discovered that he was the second victim’s father, who had come to the scene to check on her after she had not been heard from in a few days. “The man then returned outside and called 911 to report that he had discovered his daughter and another man shot to death,” police said.
Police have not revealed the motive for the shootings or what prompted them.
“Cindel was in a relationship with a man who was married to his estranged wife and she fell victim of manipulation and in a devastating turn of events, he took the life of his wife, then drove to Cindel’s home to kill her, and ultimately took the cowards way out and took his own life,” according to a GoFundMe account set up to help daughter’s funeral.
“Cindel was more than just a victim of this tragedy; she was a kind, lively, and devoted mother who did her best for her daughters. Her daughters are now in the care of family, but they require assistance.
Rebeca Nicole Akins’ family has also set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for her funeral expenses.
“My older sister Nicole was tragically taken away from us by the man she had loved for more than half her life.” This has broken each of us beyond words. “That is all I will say on the subject,” the page states.
